Job Title: Solar Foreman

Department: Construction / Field Operations
Reports To: Construction Manager / Production Manager
Direct Reports: Installer 1–4, Crew Members

Position Summary

The Solar Foreman is responsible for leading installation crews, coordinating daily jobsite activities, and ensuring solar installations are completed safely, on schedule, and to company quality standards. This role serves as the primary on-site leader and point of contact with superintendents, other trades, and internal leadership. This position is located at active jobsites throughout the L.A. area and requires regular travel. CLEAN MVR REQUIRED- MUST BE ABLE TO OPERATE COMPANY VEHCILE AS NEEDED.

The Foreman is expected to demonstrate strong technical expertise, clear communication, and ownership of jobsite outcomes while developing crew members toward higher skill levels.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Crew Leadership & Supervision

  • Lead daily jobsite operations and assign tasks based on crew skill level and project needs
  • Set expectations for quality, safety, attendance, and professionalism
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate Installer 1–3 employees
  • Endorse and support installer promotions when performance standards are met
  • Step in to perform hands-on installation work as needed

Jobsite Planning & Execution

  • Maintain awareness of:
    • Jobsite phasing and construction schedules
    • Production targets and daily work plans
    • Coordination with other trades
  • Ensure all work is completed according to plans, permits, and company standards
  • Identify upcoming work or potential obstacles and communicate proactively
  • Track unfinished or punch-list work and ensure follow-through

Quality Control

  • Ensure installations meet company quality standards, including:
    • Proper waterproofing and roof attachment methods
    • Clean, organized racking and panel layout
    • Correct conduit, wiring, and equipment placement
    • Clean jobsite conditions (roofs, vehicles, warehouse areas)
  • Verify required photos and documentation are submitted on the date of completion

Communication & Reporting

  • Serve as the primary on-site contact with:
    • General contractors and superintendents
    • Construction or production managers
  • Provide daily job progress updates when requested
  • Communicate issues, delays, or changes clearly and professionally
  • Maintain updated contact information for key jobsite stakeholders

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce all company safety policies and CAL/OSHA requirements
  • Lead by example with proper PPE use and safe work practices
  • Identify and correct unsafe conditions immediately
  • Ensure crews understand and follow electrical and roofing safety standards

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong understanding of:
    • Solar electrical systems (AC vs. DC, volts/amps/watts, production testing)
    • Inverters, backfeed calculations, and equipment specifications
    • Main service panel types and tie-in requirements
    • Roofing systems, attachment methods, and watershed principles
  • Ability to read plans, permits, and installation documents
  • Clear verbal communication and leadership presence
  • Ability to manage multiple jobsite variables simultaneously

Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven experience as an Installer 3 or equivalent
  • Demonstrated ability to act as Foreman when called upon
  • Consistent attendance and reliability
  • Strong working relationships with superintendents and field leadership
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between jobsites
    • Clean MVR Required in order to operate company vehicle -- See MVR Guidelines below.
    • Driving Requirement:
      This role requires driving as part of job duties. Employment is contingent upon meeting company Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) standards and insurance carrier approval, including a review of driving history within the past 36 months.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to work on rooftops and ladders
  • Ability to lift and carry installation materials and equipment
  • Work performed outdoors in varying weather conditions
