Summary:
The Project Manager / Estimator supports Wilkinson’s Construction Division by overseeing projects from preconstruction through completion while also handling estimating. This hybrid role ensures projects are accurately estimated, competitively bid, successfully secured, and delivered on time, within budget, and to company standards. The manager serves as a key liaison between clients, design teams, subcontractors, and field crews, while also contributing to business development and revenue growth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but not limited to:
- Manage multiple new construction plumbing and gas projects simultaneously.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate all phases of work.
- Review and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Oversee procurement of materials, subcontractors, and equipment.
- Monitor job progress, budgets, costs, and timelines.
- Ensure compliance with codes, regulations, safety protocols, and quality standards.
- Conduct jobsite inspections and resolve project issues promptly.
- Supervise and support Foremen, subcontractors, and project field teams.
- Initiate, track, and manage change orders — including scope adjustments, pricing, client approvals, and documentation to ensure timely billing and profitability.
- Prepare project take-offs, cost estimates, and competitive bids for plan & spec and design-build projects.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and addenda to determine project scope.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor pricing.
- Prepare proposal documents, budgets, and bid submissions.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, general contractors, architects, and engineers.
- Participate in project interviews, presentations, and negotiations.
- Collaborate with Construction Division Manager to develop sales strategies and pursue target projects.
Qualifications To perform this job successfully; an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Strong knowledge of commercial plumbing and gas construction systems, codes, and regulations.
- Experience managing projects from preconstruction through closeout.
- Proven estimating skills with ability to perform accurate take-offs and develop competitive bids.
- Proficient with project management and estimating software (e.g., Procore, QuoteSoft, MS Project, Excel).
- Excellent organizational, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Strong client relationship and business development capabilities.
- Must remain calm and focused in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Strong interpersonal skills for team leadership and client communication.
- Proactive decision-making and conflict resolution skills.
- Leadership skills for supervising field associates and subcontractor teams.
Education/Training/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Journeyman or Master Plumber License preferred
- 5+ years of experience in plumbing gas construction, including project management and estimating responsibilities.
Work Environment
- Office-based with regular travel to construction sites.
- Field work includes exposure to dust, noise, and heavy equipment activity.
- PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, boots, etc.) required on job sites.
- Moderate noise level in office; high noise level in field.
Physical Demands
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, and navigate active construction sites.
- Lift up to 30–40 pounds occasionally.
- Frequent travel between job sites and client meetings (valid driver’s license required).
- Exposure to varying weather conditions and loud environments.
Work Hours
- Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
- Occasional work outside of these hours is required.
