Description

Job Title: Power and Recovery Superintendent

Reports to: Operations Manager


The Position

We currently have an opening for a Power and Recovery Superintendent, this role reports directly to the Operations Manager. The Power and Recovery Superintendent manages the needs of the Power and Recovery Department under the direction of the Operations Manager, including safety, environmental compliance, operations & maintenance of equipment in the Power and Recovery area.

Qualifications

Job Responsibilities

  • Set expectations and hold department personnel accountable. 
  • Lead the safety performance of the P&R department.
  • Ensure P&R employees comply with Health and Safety policies.
  • Ensure P&R employees comply with all Environmental policies. 
  • Oversee training for P&R employees.
  • Resolve bargaining unit/labor agreement issues.
  • Set goals and develop action plans for the department.
  • Push development of long-term planning and scheduling.
  • Drive the continuous improvement process.
  • Track performance against Key Process Indicators.
  • Assist in creating the annual department budget.
  • Administer the P&R budget and manage expenses.
  • Negotiate P&R contracts.
  • Supervise the P&R Asst. Superintendents.
  • Promote collaboration between departments.
  • Coordinate the P&R Operations to meet mill demands.
  • Troubleshoot production problems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office & 4 site desired. 
  • Knowledge of pressure vessel & boiler codes Along with black liquor recovery boiler.  
  • Working knowledge of recommended good practices & The API Recovery Boiler Reference Manual for repair & inspection.
  • Incident Command & Environmental Spill Response.
  • Coast Guard & Department of Ecology Regulations.
  • Understanding of Electrical & Steam Distribution.
  • Experience in dealing with regulatory agencies.

Required Education

  • Engineering degree plus 5 years in P&R operations or 10 years in P&R operations with 5 years in a supervisory role.

Required Work Schedule and Work Environment

  • Monday through Friday, with weekend coverage and support as needed.
  • This job operates in a production office environment.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes, and odors. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets, etc.

Physical Requirements

  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and the ability to lift up to 40lbs. 
  • Vision abilities required to perform this job include close vision.

Required Previous Experience

  • 5 years in Operations or the equivalent.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience with black liquor recovery boilers.

Employment Terms

  • Full time, Exempt position
  • Salary range: $155,000 - $190,000 DOE.
  • 4 weeks paid vacation or more depending on position.
  • 9 paid holidays and one paid personal holiday per calendar year.
