The Maintenance Worker A is responsible and performs custodial duties, general maintenance, grounds upkeep as required of campus facilities and ground maintenance at college locations as assigned.
Compensation is on Schedule E.
Location: Prattville Campus (1320 Old Ridge Road, Prattville, AL 36066)
1. Cleans, sweeps, mops, vacuums, dusts, polishes, deodorizes, sanitizes, and removes trash in offices, classrooms, bathrooms, halls and other areas in all College buildings.
2. Cleans lavatories, toilets, using cleansers and sanitizing solutions.
3. Disposes of waste paper and other discards; collects and places trash in appropriate trash pickup area.
4. Maintains campus grounds, streets, curbs, and parking lots including but not limited to cutting grass, weed-eating, hedge trimming and grounds upkeep.
5. Assists with locking and securing all buildings as directed.
6. Drives and operates college vans, trucks, and equipment as assigned.
7. Serves as mail courier for all mail between campuses as assigned.
8. Sweeps steps and sidewalks adjacent to buildings.
9. Shampoos or spot cleans carpets and rugs, using a rug shampooing machine, brush or cloth and cleaning solutions.
10. Ensures adequate supply of materials and supplies are available.
11. Performs basic facility maintenance duties including but not limited to changing light bulbs, air filters, etc.
12. Inspects assigned areas and corrects or reports safety hazards.
13. Cleans and maintains grounds, paved areas, paths, walkways and stairways as instructed
.14. Maintains inventory of materials and supplies and prepares material and equipment estimates for assignments
.15. Maintains work sites in a clean and orderly condition.
16. Observes safe work methods and uses safety equipment.
17. Secures worksites from traffic hazards as necessary.
18. Prepares basic records and reports of completed work, vandalism, maintenance requests.
19. Assists campus visitors and answers inquiries about the location of buildings and properties.
20. Participates and serves on various committees and attends meetings as instructed.
21. Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Director of Facilities.
22. Adheres to the policies, rules, and standards of Central Alabama Community College, Alabama Community College System, accrediting agencies and federal regulatory bodies.
1. High school diploma or GED is required.
2. Basic computer skills required.
3. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing is required.
4. Knowledge of custodial and maintenance practices, procedures and equipment is required.
5. Demonstrated experience in industrial floor maintenance (stripping, waxing floors, etc) is required.
6. Reading skills to understand policies, procedures, operator manuals, label directions, and related material is required.
7. Listening skills to be able to comprehend verbal instructions is required.
8. Valid Alabama driver’s license is required.
9. Knowledge of safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work assignment is required.
10. Ability to use independent judgment and initiative in daily work activities is required.
11. Ability to Ability to communicate orally and in writing with groups of people from diverse backgrounds is required.
12. Experience in general maintenance and repair, custodial maintenance, and grounds upkeep or related areas is preferred.
