Job Summary: The Lead Janitorial team member is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment throughout the facility while providing leadership and direction to the janitorial staff. This position ensures compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations, oversees daily cleaning operations, and supports the company’s commitment to hygiene and safety.
In addition to performing janitorial duties, the Lead Janitorial member is responsible for inventory management, vendor coordination, task verification, schedule organization, and special project planning. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to ensure consistent cleanliness and operational efficiency across all facility areas.
Key Responsibilities and Skills:
Leadership and Coordination
- Oversee daily janitorial activities and assign cleaning tasks as needed.
- Check and review that all janitorial tasks are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Coordinate janitorial schedules and coverage when team members are out sick or on vacation.
- Maintain janitorial inventory, track supply levels, and place orders as needed.
- Escort janitorial-related vendors and ensure their services are completed to company standards.
- Plan and execute special janitorial projects as directed by management.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for janitorial operations and communicate effectively with supervisors and other departments.
- Demonstrate a high level of leadership, professionalism, and accountability.
General Facility Cleaning
- Collect and replace trash liners throughout offices, restrooms, breakrooms, locker rooms, and common areas.
- Dust and wipe down desks, chairs, lockers, workstations, and conference tables.
- Disinfect walls, door handles, and other high-touch surfaces.
- Clean and polish glass surfaces, including windows and entryway doors.
- Vacuum, sweep, and mop floors, including walkways, hallways, and staircases.
- Restock sanitation supplies, including paper towels, soap, hairnets, and beard nets.
- Clean and organize janitorial supply areas, ensuring proper chemical storage and safety compliance.
Breakroom & Restroom Maintenance
- Wipe down and disinfect tables, chairs, sinks, counters, and appliances in breakrooms.
- Sanitize and polish coffee makers, microwaves (inside and out), and refrigerators (exterior only).
- Clean and polish restroom fixtures, including sinks, toilets, urinals, and faucets.
- Disinfect stalls, partitions, paper towel dispensers, and hand dryers.
- Clean mirrors and remove smudges and water spots.
- Dust vents, ceiling edges, and light fixtures to maintain air quality.
- Sweep and wet mop restroom and breakroom floors to maintain hygiene standards.
Production & Shipping Area Maintenance
- Disinfect sinks, counters, and appliances in workstations, production offices, and quality control areas.
- Maintain cleaning of hallways and walkways.
- Escort service providers (e.g., uniform and mop companies) during designated visits.
- Restock and organize cleaning supplies for restroom and production areas.
End-of-Shift Duties
- Conduct final trash collection and disposal rounds, ensuring all bins are emptied and relined.
- Recheck restrooms and breakrooms to ensure all supplies are stocked and areas are sanitized.
- Perform a final facility walkthrough, checking for cleanliness and securing all janitorial supplies.
- Report any facility maintenance or sanitation issues to the Office Manager.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- At least 1 year of janitorial experience is required.
- 6+ months of leadership or supervisory experience required.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English required.
- Knowledge of food safety sanitation practices, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) is preferred.
- Familiarity with cleaning chemicals and safe handling procedures (OSHA compliance) is required.
- Ability to operate industrial cleaning equipment, such as vacuums, mops, and steam cleaners is required.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to coordinate schedules, track supplies, and manage projects independently.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to stand for extended periods while performing cleaning duties.
- Capability to lift and move objects weighing up to 30 lbs.
- Ability to bend, crouch, reach, walk, and move freely throughout the facility.
- Capacity to perform repetitive cleaning motions such as scrubbing, wiping, or using cleaning tools.
- Ability to work in varying temperature conditions, including cold, hot, or humid environments.
- Must follow OSHA guidelines for handling and storing chemicals safely.
Other Duties:
· Follow food safety and quality protocols.
· Follow GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), housekeeping and safe work practices.
· Other duties as assigned.
