Scope of Work:

The Janitor Lead performs and oversees custodial and sanitation services to maintain clean, orderly, and secure facilities at the U.S. Army Garrison Miami (Homestead) location. In addition to performing regular janitorial duties, the Lead coordinates daily work assignments, provides on-the-job guidance to custodial staff, and ensures that all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with contract specifications, safety standards, and security requirements applicable to a federal installation requiring a Secret clearance. This position supports mission readiness by ensuring all assigned spaces meet appearance and hygiene standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and participate in the daily cleaning and maintenance of assigned areas, ensuring quality and timeliness of work.
  • Assign and monitor janitorial tasks to ensure compliance with established cleaning schedules and standards.
  • Train and guide custodial staff in proper cleaning techniques, safety procedures, and equipment use.
  • Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors and carpets in assigned areas.
  • Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms, breakrooms, and other common areas.
  • Empty trash and recycling receptacles; ensure proper disposal of waste in accordance with site and environmental procedures.
  • Dust, polish, and clean furniture, fixtures, glass, and surfaces.
  • Wash walls, windows, and partitions as required.
  • Perform routine cleaning of entrances, hallways, offices, and workspaces.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with quality standards; report deficiencies to the Custodial Supervisor.
  • Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and request replenishment as needed.
  • Report maintenance issues (e.g., leaks, damages, or safety hazards) to the supervisor.
  • Safely operate custodial equipment and use cleaning chemicals per established safety procedures.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of custodial experience, including some experience in a lead or team coordination role, preferred.
  • Prior custodial or janitorial experience is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions in English.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain base access clearance in accordance with USAG Miami facility security requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a fully adjudicated Secret Clearance; must be able to obtain an interim clearance prior to start. 
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and a safe driving record, in accordance with company policy, to operate vehicles or equipment as required for the position. 

 Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Physical requirements include (but are not limited to) the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Repetitive use of hands and arms for cleaning tasks and operation of custodial equipment.
  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity required for detail cleaning and safe equipment use.
  • Work performed primarily indoors in offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas, with occasional outdoor cleaning assignments.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and waste materials; personal protective equipment (PPE) provided and required.
  • May work in occupied or unoccupied facilities; must maintain professional conduct around military personnel and civilian staff.
  • Must be able to work on-call, alternate, and extended shift schedules when necessary to meet the mission requirements, including weekends and holidays.
  • Work may be performed indoors or outdoors in varying weather conditions. Must be able to work in confined spaces, at heights, and around various hazards with appropriate PPE.
