DescriptionSierra Ready Mix is seeking a skilled and reliable Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team. This role is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of heavy equipment used in ready-mix and aggregate operations. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and experienced in working with diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, including loaders, mixers, skid steers, manlifts, and other construction/aggregate equipment
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using appropriate testing equipment and software
- Complete preventative maintenance inspections and document findings accurately
- Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, and other critical components
- Conduct safety inspections to ensure equipment meets company and regulatory standards
- Maintain accurate service records, including labor, parts, and repair notes
- Order and track parts and materials needed for repairs
- Support shop organization and maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work environment
- Assist other mechanics and collaborate with operations teams as needed
- Perform field service repairs when required
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations
- Perform other duties as assigned
QualificationsPosition Requirements
- 2+ years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic (or equivalent combination of training and experience)
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
- Ability to diagnose and repair equipment issues efficiently
- Experience with diagnostic tools and software (e.g., Davie, Cummins Insite, Cat ET, or similar) preferred
- Welding and fabrication experience is a plus
- Must have own basic set of tools
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL is a plus
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends or emergency repairs
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
- Ability to work in outdoor environments, including extreme temperatures and weather conditions
- Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing on equipment
- Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol screen
