Scope of Work:

The Janitor / Floor Care Specialist is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the U.S. Army Garrison (USAG) Miami facility in Doral, Florida. This position performs general janitorial duties as well as specialized floor care services to ensure all floor surfaces—including carpet, tile, terrazzo, and other hard floors—are properly maintained. Work is performed in a secure facility requiring strict adherence to safety, confidentiality, and access control procedures associated with a Secret clearance environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Strip, seal, wax, and buff hard floor surfaces using high-speed burnishers and other floor care equipment.
  • Shampoo, extract, and spot-clean carpets and upholstered surfaces using appropriate cleaning systems.
  • Perform deep cleaning and restorative floor care services on a scheduled or as-needed basis.
  • Inspect and maintain all floor care equipment; ensure proper operation and cleaning after use.
  • Safely mix, dilute, and apply cleaning chemicals and finishes according to manufacturer and site specifications.
  • Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming floors and carpets in assigned areas.
  • Cleaning, sanitizing, and restocking restrooms, breakrooms, and other common areas.
  • Emptying trash receptacles, recycling containers, and ensuring proper disposal of waste.
  • Dusting, polishing, and cleaning furniture, fixtures, glass, and surfaces.
  • Washing walls, windows, and partitions as required.
  • Performing routine cleaning of entrances, hallways, offices, and workspaces.
  • Reporting maintenance issues (e.g., leaks, damages, or safety hazards) to the supervisor.
  • Safely operating custodial equipment and using cleaning chemicals in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Minimum of one year of custodial experience, including one (1) year of specialized floor care in a commercial, medical, or government setting.
  • Demonstrated experience operating floor machines, buffers, scrubbers, and carpet extractors.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, their proper application, and safe handling procedures.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions in English.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain base access clearance in accordance with USAG Miami facility security requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a fully adjudicated Secret Clearance; must be able to obtain an interim clearance prior to start. 
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and a safe driving record, in accordance with company policy, to operate vehicles or equipment as required for the position. 

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Physical requirements include (but are not limited to) the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Repetitive use of hands and arms for cleaning tasks and operation of custodial equipment.
  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity required for detail cleaning and safe equipment use.
  • Work performed primarily indoors in offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas, with occasional outdoor cleaning assignments.
  • Frequent exposure to cleaning agents, noise, vibration, and varying temperatures.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and waste materials; personal protective equipment (PPE) provided and required.
  • May work in occupied or unoccupied facilities; must maintain professional conduct around military personnel and civilian staff.
  • Must be able to work on-call, alternate, and extended shift schedules when necessary to meet the mission requirements, including weekends and holidays.
  • Work may be performed indoors or outdoors in varying weather conditions. Must be able to work in confined spaces, at heights, and around various hazards with appropriate PPE.
