Job Responsibilities

  • Supervises and assists in the performance of maintenance and preventive maintenance of electrical fire alarms, CCTV, electronic security, PA, intercom and high voltage distribution systems and equipment.

  • Plans for electrical work including repairs to high voltage equipment and systems.

  • Reads blueprints and wiring diagrams and makes material take-offs.

  • Requisitions materials and parts needed.

  • Ensures completion of installation/repairs.

  • Make emergency repairs to electrical systems and equipment.

  • Performs on-the-job training for Inmates.  

  • Participate in on-call rotation, may require overtime work.                                                           

Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and experience in the construction or repair of secondary electrical systems. Relevant experience may be substituted for the required diploma on a year-for-year basis.

SCDC Minimum Requirements: 

(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources). 

A high school diploma and 5 years professional experience in the construction or repair of institutional electrical systems.
