An article from the National Association of Home Builders reported that hiring drastically dropped during March and April 2020, but increased quickly in May and June. This was evidenced with April hiring rates of only 3.7% with a rapid increase in May and June to 9.7% and 6.9% respectively.
More recent Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) shows that since July, construction (NAICS 23) unemployment has improved from 10.1% in June 2020 to 7.1% in September 2020. Unemployment drops show that the industry is hiring again. The challenge is attracting candidates in the era of Covid-19, where recruiters are relying on virtual rather than face-to-face events.
The importance of online job boards continue to be an effective tool in a recruiter’s tool kit. However, the strategy of posting on an industry-related job board allows employers to target their recruitment efforts. Furthermore, an industry-related job board that also attracts diverse candidates allows employers to attract a qualified and diverse workforce that reflects the communities they serve.
