Job Description:

Provide oversight and direction for general and preventative maintenance for carpentry projects in all residential buildings

  • Provide leadership, oversight, and direction for routine and preventative maintenance on all carpentry projects (e.g. cabinetry, furniture, wooden structures) for all residential buildings
  • Oversee and coordinate carpentry and millwork operations, including fabrication, assembly, installation, and repair of cabinetry, furniture, and structural wood components across residential and tenant-occupied spaces.
  • Supervise and ensure quality control of production processes, including CNC machine operations, workflow management, and adherence to design specifications, tolerances, and safety standards.
  • Direct design and technical planning efforts, including field measurements, blueprint interpretation, and use of computer-aided design software to develop and execute cabinetry and millwork projects.
  • Manage maintenance and service delivery functions, including work order processing, preventative and corrective repairs, renovations, and installation of doors, frames, locks, and related components.
  • Develop and implement a preventative maintenance plan for equipment associated with assigned discipline/trade.
  • Perform regular inspections of work performed to ensure regulatory requirement compliance
  • Perform individual room inspections, system checks and repairs as needed
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards within facilities (e.g. environmental concerns, indoor air quality) providing follow-up to stakeholders, as needed
  • Responsible for quality assurance and ensuring appropriate standards for all work performed by internal staff or contracted vendors follows department, UF, and industry standards, guidelines, and policies
  • Prepare and review operational reports and schedules to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Responsible for proper disposal of surplus or equipment, inventory, and supplies for assigned area.
  • Use issued air purifying respirator; abide by the UF EH&S Respiratory Protection Program.

Collaborate on various facility initiatives or facility/campus projects

  • Review plans and create recommendations on capital and minor construction projects specific to self-performed work; ensure proper installation management after design and review
  • Participate in architectural and engineering planning and design, including space and installation management.
  • Assist Project Management staff with construction walkthroughs and inspections for general trades work
  • Assist in identifying and documenting deficiencies in work from vendors and contractors.
  • Ensure construction and renovation projects meet environmental, health, and safety standards, and comply with government regulations

Administrative Leadership & Coordination

  • Supervise full-time staff including recruitment, training, HR compliance, performance evaluation, and professional development
  • Provide leadership in establishing goals, work priorities and daily workflow, and outcomes
  • Oversee budget for area of responsibility and allocate resources to support priorities; assist with budget planning (long and short-term)
  • Lead the development, implementation, dissemination, and enforcement of departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure consistency, and compliance within areas of responsibility
  • Ensure effective use of information systems (e.g. work order management system) and corresponding data utilized in area operations and departmental processes
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining, disseminating, and enforcing policies, procedures, and guidelines for areas of responsibility
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with departmental and University policies, guidelines, and other relevant regulations
  • Develop and implement written operating policies and procedures, including but not limited to safety standards, quality work standards, handling of hazardous materials, and work order management
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge on current code requirements, industry standard methods, procedures, and technology
  • Provide oversight to continuing education related to safety, handling of hazardous materials, material safety data sheets (SDS), regulatory codes, compliance, and product equipment/advancements

Manage and track inventory, equipment, and supplies

  • Manage inventory of materials, supplies, chemicals, tools and/or equipment throughout area of responsibility; repair equipment as needed
  • Review requirements for equipment and material logistics, implement inventory control systems, and order and maintains supplies for equipment and operations
  • Assist in monitoring of maintenance service agreements and other contractual services with external vendors
  • Assist with short and long term planning of equipment needs and purchases

Develop reports, handle special projects, tasks, and other duties as assigned

  • Serve on Division of Student Life or University of Florida committees as needed
  • Serve as a member of the unit leadership team
  • Operates state vehicles  
Expected Salary:

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Valid driver's license. 

Preferred:

EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

  • Obtained bachelor’s degree in business, construction and design, or similar field or eight (8) years of experience and general working knowledge of carpentry, furniture repair, cabinetry
  • Working knowledge of Florida state building codes and other relevant codes and standards (e.g. Florida Fire codes, NEC, NFPA, ADA)
  • Minimum three years of full-time supervisory experience leading a high performing team
  • Proficiency in general knowledge of materials, principles, practices, and use of tools in the carpentry field; such as use of computer numerical control (CNC) machine program for millwork fabrication
  • General understanding of OSHA requirements as it relates to Asbestos Containing Materials and chemical waste management
  • Experience working with budgets and financial procedures
  • Experience implementing preventive maintenance programs
  • Experience with reading and interpreting construction specifications, drawings, and related documents with accuracy

SKILLS

  • Demonstrated proficiency with computers and software applications such as work order management systems, AutoCad, Revit, Architecture/Mechanical, Electrical Plumbing (MEP) programs and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to communicate with various levels of staff
  • Skill and knowledge of the safe and effective use of hand tools, power tools, and computer-assisted equipment associated for this role
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, professionalism, dependability, and timeliness
  • Demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills  

ABILITIES

  • Ability to use the listed software to machine parts for the production of cabinetry and other products
  • Ability to remain discreet and respect the privacy of residents, tenants, and/or guests
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
