Title: Shop Foreman

JOB SUMMARY

The duties and responsibilities of the Shop Foreman include handling the safe and effective management of all shop duties, tasks, and repairs. This position will be in constant communication with the Director of Fleet Maintenance to ensure the shop is functioning in regards to state and federal workplace safety requirements, along with scheduling all repairs for Pero Transport’s equipment, coaching mechanics on their job duties and responsibilities, and ensuring the effective communication of repair schedules and maintenance.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure easy access and organization of all MSDS sheets for hazards and chemicals in the shop.
  • Implement proper lockout/tagout procedures and maintain required supplies.
  • Promote and enforce safe work practices among all mechanics and inventory personnel, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and company standards.
  • Maintain proficiency in the safe operation of all garage tools, diagnostic equipment, lifts, hoists, and jacking equipment.
  • Independently analyze and safely resolve complex mechanical issues.
  • Perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on trucks, trailers, and related equipment, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Adhere to manufacturer warranty policies and procedures.
  • Conduct detailed inspections of engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, and braking systems using diagnostic tools and software.
  • Perform welding, fabrication, and other mechanical tasks as required.
  • Plan, schedule, and communicate all fleet repairs and maintenance through TMT Shop Planner and coordinate with the Pero Transport dispatch team.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts usage, and maintenance schedules.
  • Train and coach mechanics on proper repair methods and safety standards.
  • Ensure the shop is organized, clean, and maintained to company standards, with all tools and supplies properly stored at the end of each shift.
  • Communicate daily work progress with the Director of Fleet Maintenance.
  • Balance time effectively as a working foreman, completing hands-on repairs while managing shop operations.
  • Respond to emergency roadside service calls as needed.
  • Stay current with new technology, tools, and repair techniques in the diesel and heavy equipment industry.


JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Competent math and computer skills
  • Good communication skills 
  • Proper attention to detail
  • May be required to drive a company vehicle; must have a clean driving record per the MVR
  • Must be able to speak and write English, working knowledge of Spanish a plus


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This position is based in a shop and fleet maintenance environment, which may involve exposure to loud noises, moving mechanical parts, fumes, dust, and other elements related to vehicle repair and maintenance.
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, including in varying weather conditions.
  • The role requires frequent interaction with mechanics, drivers, and management to coordinate repair schedules and ensure safety compliance.
  • The Shop Foreman must adhere to all company, state, and federal safety regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • May be required to work extended hours, weekends, or on-call shifts based on operational needs.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and climb in and around vehicles or equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Requires manual dexterity and the ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively.
  • Must have visual acuity to inspect small parts and detect mechanical issues.
  • Must be able to wear and use safety equipment, such as steel-toed boots, gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection, as required.
