The Pre‑Construction Intern supports Webber’s estimators and pre‑construction teams during the planning, estimating, and bidding phases of heavy civil and infrastructure projects. This internship provides hands‑on exposure to quantity take‑offs, plan review, cost analysis, and bid preparation while gaining real‑world experience in a fast‑paced construction environment. The role is designed to build a strong foundation for a future career in construction management, engineering, or estimating.
• Assist pre-construction and estimating teams with quantity take-offs using project plans and specifications.
• Support the preparation and organization of bid documents, including plans, specifications, and addenda.
• Review drawings and specifications to identify scope requirements under the guidance of estimators and project engineers.
• Help gather pricing from vendors and subcontractors and track bid responses.
• Assist with basic cost analysis and comparison of historical versus current estimating data.
• Participate in internal pre-bid meetings and coordination sessions.
• Maintain organized electronic files for estimates, take-offs, and bid documentation.
• Observe and support Webber’s Safety First culture and follow all company safety policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the pre-construction team.
• Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Science, or related degree program.
• Strong mathematical skills with an interest in construction estimating and project planning.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications (preferred, not required).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and time-management skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to learn in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Hands-on experience supporting pre-construction and estimating activities on real infrastructure projects.
• Exposure to heavy civil construction markets including roadway, bridge, and utility work.
• Practical understanding of how projects move from estimate to construction.
• Professional mentorship from experienced estimators and construction leaders.
