The Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women is seeking a skilled and experienced Plumber/Pipefitter Foreman to lead and oversee plumbing operations across the facility. This position plays a critical role in maintaining safe, functional, and compliant infrastructure that supports daily operations and the well-being of staff and incarcerated individuals.

As the Plumber/Pipefitter Foreman, you will supervise and direct plumbing staff, coordinate maintenance and repair projects, and ensure all plumbing, piping, and water systems operate efficiently and meet regulatory standards. This role requires strong technical knowledge, effective leadership, and the ability to manage work in a secure, fast-paced environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:

Four years of experience or training in pipefitting, steam fitting, or plumbing.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Oversee Maintenance, Repair, and Replacement of Plumbing and Utility Systems — Lead and perform skilled work involving the installation, maintenance, and repair of all plumbing, sewage, water distribution, and gas systems throughout the facility. Ensure all work meets safety codes, operational standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide On-Call Weekend Maintenance Support — Serve in a rotating weekend on-call capacity to respond to urgent plumbing and utility issues. Diagnose problems, coordinate corrective actions, and ensure timely restoration of essential services to maintain facility safety and functionality.
  • Train and Supervise Inmate Workers — Instruct, guide, and oversee inmates assigned to assist with plumbing repairs and maintenance tasks. Ensure proper tool use, safe work practices, and adherence to facility rules while fostering skill development and productive work habits.
  • Plan and Prioritize Work Assignments — Evaluate maintenance needs, schedule projects, and allocate resources to ensure efficient workflow and minimal disruption to facility operations.
  • Inspect Systems and Ensure Compliance — Conduct routine inspections of plumbing and piping systems to identify potential issues, verify proper operation, and ensure compliance with state codes and institutional standards.

Position-Specific Details: 

Appointment Type: PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE 


  • Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted. 
  • An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted. 
  • This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
