We are hiring an HVAC Project Manager / Mechanical Engineer (MEP) to serve as the primary design engineer and project lead for a full-service MEP consulting engineering firm in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. With over 90 years of delivering mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection solutions across K-12 and higher education, healthcare, senior living, hospitality, and recreation sectors, this firm handles 100+ projects annually. This role is both technical and client-facing. You will lead HVAC system design from concept through construction administration while managing project schedules, client relationships, and junior engineering staff.
What You'll Be Doing
- Serve as the primary HVAC/Mechanical Engineer and lead designer for assigned projects
- Perform HVAC system design, engineering calculations, equipment selection, and construction document preparation
- Utilize AutoCAD and Revit to develop and review design drawings
- Coordinate with architects, owners, contractors, and internal engineering disciplines throughout project execution
- Manage project schedules, deliverables, budgets, and technical quality
- Participate in client meetings, design reviews, site visits, and field surveys
- Review submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and construction-related documentation
- Prepare project specifications, cost estimates, and bidding documents
- Support construction administration activities and resolve field issues
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and design oversight to junior engineering staff
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable building codes, industry standards, and client requirements
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- 5β10+ years of HVAC/Mechanical Engineering experience in a consulting engineering environment
- Strong experience designing HVAC systems for commercial, institutional, healthcare, or industrial building types
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit; experience with HVAC load calculations and equipment sizing
- Experience managing projects and serving as the primary engineering contact for clients
- Experience supporting construction administration, RFIs, submittals, and site observations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; PE license preferred but not required
