DescriptionThe Construction Intern supports the Nauvoo Facilities and Construction team by assisting with a variety of construction, repair, and maintenance activities on historic and modern structures. This role works under the direction of skilled trades personnel, helping with basic construction tasks, operating tools and equipment as assigned, and maintaining safe, clean, and organized work areas. The position requires physical stamina, dependability, and a willingness to learn and follow established instructions and safety procedures.
This is a full-time, 12-month internship located on-site in Nauvoo, IL.
Housing may be provided if available.
Responsibilities
- Perform general labor tasks including site preparation, demolition, material handling, and cleanup.
- Assist carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and other skilled trades as needed.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment safely and correctly.
- Load, unload, and stage materials, equipment, and supplies.
- Measure, cut, and assemble building materials under supervision.
- Mix, pour, or place concrete, gravel, and other materials as directed.
- Help with installation, repair, or maintenance of building components (framing, drywall, flooring, fixtures, etc.).
- Maintain clean, organized, and hazard free work areas.
- Follow all safety rules, PPE requirements, and job-site procedures.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
QualificationsRequired:
- Paid Interns are qualified while enrolled in an educational institution and for one year following graduation. They must sign a Paid Internship Engagement Letter.
- Basic understanding of construction practices, tools, and job-site safety.
- Ability to follow directions, work independently, and support team tasks.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs., climb ladders, bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods.
- Strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to learn.
Preferred:
- Prior construction, labor, or maintenance experience.
- Familiarity with basic measurements, tools, and safety practices.
- Valid driver’s license or ability to travel to job sites.
Working Conditions Include:
