Description

At Hi-Way Paving, we are general contractors in the construction field that specialize in significant amounts of concrete paving, storm drainage, and excavation on highways and airfields.


We are seeking a motivated, high-potential individual to join our team as Paving Team Lead. This position serves as a stepping stone to a Paving Foreman role. The selected candidate will undergo training to develop the necessary skills for future promotion while also stepping up temporarily to lead and mentor a crew as needed, without full foreman responsibilities. The role will involve supporting the preparation and execution of slipform and fixed form paving operations, ensuring the construction of finished pavements that meet stringent FAA, USACE, and state DOT specifications.


In this position, you will assist with operational tasks on concrete paving jobs and provide leadership to skilled and general laborers on-site. You will work closely with Hi-Way’s job-site leadership to review procedures, plans, and results to ensure efficient operations.


This role may involve work at various locations, including Nashville, TN; Charlotte, NC; Raleigh, NC; and Columbia, SC, with up to 100% travel required.


What You'll Do:

  •  Inspect grade conditions, formwork, and steel placement to ensure compliance with project specifications before concrete placement.
  • Assist with the setup and operation of slipform paving equipment.
  • Support Foremen and Superintendents in coordinating slip form paving operations using GOMACO equipment with stringless technology.
  • Help coordinate and implement fixed-form paving operations.
  • Monitor placement, finishing, and curing processes to ensure adherence to specifications.
  • Lead and communicate effectively with crew members and project managers to maintain high-quality paving results.
  • Champion safety on the job site, ensuring compliance with safety standards and promoting a safe work environment.


What We Look For:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in heavy/highway or airfield construction projects, or related job-site management experience (preferred).
  • Experience with GOMACO paving equipment (preferred).
  • Previous experience leading or contributing to a concrete paving crew at airfields or airports (preferred).
  • Safety and OSHA certifications or relevant safety training (preferred).
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to focus on multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with teams.
  • Must be willing to travel overnight to job sites up to 100% of the time.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Ability to gain clearance for restricted/high-security zones (e.g., airport AOA, military bases).
    • Willingness to travel 100% of the time.
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Physical ability to lift 75 lbs, climb, walk, kneel, squat, push, pull, and enter confined spaces.
