Automation Controls Electrician — Food Manufacturing

TekPro Engineering
On-site
Bartlett, Tennessee, United States
$35 - $45 USD hourly

About the role

TekPro Engineering is recruiting a direct-hire Automation Controls Electrician for a leading food manufacturer in Bartlett, IL. You’ll own the electrical health of high-speed production and packaging lines on 2nd shift (2:00 PM – 10:30 PM), ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

A day in the life

You arrive before changeover, review open work orders in the CMMS, and scan the line status. A sensor fault on a wrapper triggers your first call; you isolate energy using LOTO, trace the issue through the control circuit, and bring the line back up. Later, you fine-tune a VFD parameter to stabilize motor speed, perform scheduled predictive checks on servo axes, and update schematics after a minor panel rewire. Before shift end, you log precise notes in the CMMS and partner with production to plan a quick kaizen on a recurring jam.

Core responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and optimize electrical systems on production and packaging equipment.
  • Diagnose PLC, drives (VFD), motors, relays, sensors, and related control-system issues.
  • Execute preventive and predictive maintenance to cut downtime and boost reliability.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation with accuracy.
  • Perform work to stringent safety, quality, and compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and production on continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records and close work orders within the CMMS.

What you bring

  • 3+ years as an industrial electrician in manufacturing (food or packaging preferred).
  • Strong command of PLC logic, control circuits, and instrumentation.
  • Hands-on experience with 480V 3-phase, low-voltage controls, and automation hardware.
  • Ability to troubleshoot both electrical and mechanical interactions on the line.
  • Knowledge of LOTO and OSHA safety practices; OSHA 10 a plus.
  • Technical certification, journeyman license, or trade schooling is a plus.

Compensation & benefits

  • Competitive hourly pay with shift differential.
  • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid time off and holidays.
  • Stable, growth-oriented environment with a direct-hire, permanent path.

Proficiencies

  • Electrical Schematics
  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP)
  • Electrical Repair
  • OSHA 10-Hour Certification (OSHA 10)

Technologies you’ll work with

  • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
  • Variable Frequency Drives (VFD)
  • Servo Motors

This is a direct-hire, permanent opportunity with a leading, expanding organization. Ready to keep high-speed lines running at their best? Apply today.
