Position Overview:

The Assistant Superintendent In-Training (AIT) position is designed for candidates with golf course maintenance experience who are seeking management careers in the golf course maintenance industry. This role provides hands-on experience and specific training to prepare for advancement to an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent position. The AIT is responsible for a broad range of maintenance activities, including equipment operation, agronomic product applications, special projects, limited supervision, and administrative and record-keeping duties. The AIT reports directly to the Director of Golf Course & Grounds and the Golf Course Superintendents.

Position Responsibilities:

• Assist with all aspects of daily course maintenance, including mowing all playing surfaces using both walk-behind and riding mowers.
• Utilize effective water management techniques, including hand watering and other methods.
• Perform accurate fertilizer and chemical applications, ensuring proper calibration and safe application techniques.
• Participate in daily course setup, including adjusting hole and tee placements and performing detailed maintenance tasks.
• Support the implementation of cultural practices such as topdressing and aerification.
• Assist with the maintenance and operation of the irrigation system, including repairs to irrigation heads, pipe issues, and troubleshooting.
• Operate and train staff in the proper use and maintenance of all golf course equipment.
• Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the golf course maintenance team.

• Previous golf course maintenance experience required.
• Degree or certificate in turfgrass science or related field is preferred but not required.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs., work outdoors in various conditions, and stand or walk for extended periods of time.
• Strong work ethic and ability to work as part of a team.
